robot concepts

Trying to not get trapped into just doing landscapes, because I really need to practice figures as well. I played around this evening with these two robots - this is really just a concept piece, I was trying to get their forms to "read" well, 'cause that's the part that frustrates and scares me. Detail is (relatively) easy, but making a humanoid look right I find quite difficult.

I kinda "cheated" a bit on these, I rendered out two guys in Poser and then used them for initial blocking of shape, but then I warped, cut and painted on top to create something quite different from the original.

and two more picts

Two very different images.

The first one is something I started before I went to India, but I had to do some tweaking, both to make it look better, and to bring down the render time...I had tried to make it work the whole time I was in India, but when I got back, it was only 12% complete and said it would take another 2 months to render! The model skin is called "Rain", and hence the name.

Rain in the Snow

The second image I did yesterday after watching an interesting tutorial that sparked an idea.

Fall Comes to the Valley

As always, comments welcomed and appreciated :)

When the big people come, someone has to stay behind to hold the tide while the tribe escapes! It's a volunteer mission, as no gobble is expected to survive such an encounter.

Feel like I'm getting the hang of this whole "snow and shitty weather" thing :)

A Momentary Perch

My first attempt at really painting anything in photoshop. Sky was rendered in Vue, as was V4. City was painted based on a tutorial and brushes found at:

http://www.spyroteknik.com/resources.html

I hope to improve my painting in the future, but I was pleased with the results :)

Really trying to "skill up" in regards to my artwork. Trying new perspectives, starting to model a couple of my own objects, and working towards a more "hyper-real" look. Still got a long way to go, but I like these 3.

As always, lemme know what you think. I have thick skin, criticism is fine :)

Just a simple render, playing around with HDRI mixed with standard lighting.

I won 1st place in the Renderosity.com Vue "City" challenge this month! Not that it means anything, but hey, it was nice. This is the first month I've won where I felt like the competition was hardcore, so it made me feel good.

The Old Neighborhood

A little worn down, a little tattered around the edges, but still home.

This one turned out freakin' awesome, at least as far as I'm concerned ;> Recommended to view full size, there are a lot of little details.
