I hate the Mac store

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I believe that assuming inventories are there, a physical storefront should be able to sell you the same thing that a website can.

I arrived at the Mac store last night, and first, they wouldn't listen to me when I told them exactly what I wanted, instead I got the 20 minute shpiel about .mac and iLife all that other happy shit that I don't give a shit about. I wound up showing the salesman how to use a couple of unix commands, just to get him to shut up.

They offer me a free $100 printer with my purchase of a computer! Yay, just what I need, but whatever, I'm thinking "Why not?"

Then, the kicker - They can't sell me a 17" powerbook with 2 gigs of Ram. They can sell me one with 1 gig of ram made up of 2 512M chips...to get 2 gigs, I would have to buy the 2 1 gig chips and then swap the memory myself (leaving me with a useless gig of mac memory)...this would cost almost $400 more than the website. They also couldn't fathom why this was a problem!

Fuck that.

I wound up using the computers in the store to order my laptop from the website. It's supposed to arrive mid-week next week.

I know that in the grand scheme of things, 1 week isn't a big deal, but damn, I wanted to play with that thing today :(
